Meet Philip, studying Mandarin Chinese, and see why they chose Listen & Learn!
Philip Learns Mandarin to Connect Markets in Wales to China!

Philip Jarman, a Representative for the Swansea University Science Department, tells us why his Mandarin studies started, and how he has enjoyed his course thus far:

Listen & Learn: Hi Philip, thanks for taking the time to talk to us today!
Philip: No problem!

Listen & Learn: Could you please tell us a little about yourself?
Pjilip: My name is Philip Jarman, I’m 28 years old, and I work for Swansea University as an International Officer for the Science Department. This involves lots of travel and talking to overseas students about coming to Swansea to study.

Listen & Learn: When did you start studying with Listen & Learn?
Philip: I started in September 2013.

Listen & Learn: Which language are you studying?
Philip: I am studying Mandarin Chinese.

Listen & Learn: Why? What are your reasons and goals?
Philip: China is the main market for us in Science at Swansea University and I normally visit there twice a year to talk to students and partner institutions. I also welcome Chinese visitors to Swansea throughout the year so wanted to have at least some basic knowledge of the language to help with these activities.

Listen & Learn: Why did you choose Listen & Learn?
Philip: I searched for personal tuition for Chinese in Cardiff online, read the reviews and decided that Listen & Learn was right for me with their tailored home tuition, flexible learning, good prices and good reputation.

Listen & Learn: Was Listen & Learn helpful?
Philip: Yes very. From the first enquiry they answered all of my questions and have been very supportive throughout.

Listen & Learn: What was the most helpful thing?
Philip: My teacher is fantastic; it is hard having 2 hours of one-to-one tuition after a full day at work but she has been flexible, made it enjoyable and set fun tasks to help with learning. The course is very good as are the learning materials.

Listen & Learn: Would you recommend Listen & Learn?
Philip: Yes definitely, for all the reasons I have highlighted above.

Listen & Learn: And on a final note, what's your favourite saying in your new language?
Philip: “Mamahuhu!” which means, “I feel ok!”
